Recognize any of these book characters?
Fifth graders took on the project of designing a pumpkin to look like their favorite book character to help promote literature within our school. This was an inaugural project for my fifth grade reading and writing students so I was anxious to see what I would get from them never having done this before.
I printed off the covers of each of the books their character came from and placed those on their lockers. Students then wrote a paragraph explaining why they chose that character. The assignment requirements were that pumpkins could not be carved and it had to represent a book character. I was amazed at what I received!
They totally exceeded the vision I had in mind when assigning this project. Everything from Pete the Cat to The Very Hungry Caterpillar! I hope you enjoy looking through some of the pictures of their pumpkins. It has been so fun hearing students of all ages walk through the halls saying, “I love that book!” This is a project I will be doing for years to come.
