We all know how important it is for students to master their math facts. Growing up the only option I had for learning math facts was flashcards. While this works for some, I found that I grew to hate practicing my facts. It felt like pulling teeth. Now, I know how important it is to recall these facts immediately. It will help make students more efficient and improve their ability to solve more complex problems.
Nowadays, students (and parents) are lucky that there are many fun apps to aid in mastering subtraction, addition, multiplication, and division facts. I’ve compiled a list of my favorite FREE math facts apps.
Sushi Monster (Grades 2-4)
Sushi Monster is a game for students to practice and extend math fact fluency. This app strengthens strategic reasoning for addition and multiplication. It is a fast paced and engaging game.
Front Row is a program designed to provide students with adaptive practice in math and language arts. I could go on and on about this app (and I will in a blog post coming soon). For math purposes, this software has a diagnostic pre-test that ensures students start at the right level and are then able to self-pace. There is a math fact practice that students can do to earn coins. It relates addition to subtraction and multiplication to division. I require students to complete one round of math fact practice before they begin working on their self-paced curriculum. All of the data gathered while students use the app is put into a teacher dashboard which is broken down by each skill and shows each students’ progress.
